Galations 5:1 says, "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by the yoke of slavery."
Ok... that sounds pretty basic. You're not a slave, right?
Well, I am. Wait! Before you rush off to call the police to rescue me, let me explain.
I'm a slave to worry. On the outside I may appear calm, but worries swirl in my head more frequently than I'd like to admit.
Several months ago I opened an Etsy shop for my handmade jewelry. If you've read my "Causes" tab, you'll know that my goal is to raise awareness and money for Africa Water and Life. Since I opened the shop just before Christmas I was fortunate to receive quite a few immediate sales.
Here comes the worry...
Lately, sales have slowed. In fact, I recently had an 8 day dry spell. I began to think of ways to boost my business... sales, advertisements, a newsletter. How could I handle this on top in addition to my teaching job... aaaahhhh, there's so much to do. Worry crept into my little brain and said, "What if I don't sell anything?! "

Have you ever heard the phrase, "Let Go, and Let God"? I heard it on my car radio Monday, and it struck me like a brick. I didn't need to worry and stress. Where's my trust in God gone?
So, on Monday as I drove home I had a little chat with God. "Ok, God, if I'm supposed to have sales I will. I'll let go and see what you do." A weight lifted from my shoulders, and I actually laughed out loud.
THIS is the freedom God gives us. If we are listening to Him, things work out as they should, without us running in circles, striving, and worrying.
It just so happens that sales were in God's plan for my little shop. I pulled into my driveway, set down my purse and turned on my computer, and (you guessed it!) there was a jewelry order in my inbox... and two the next day!
Thanks for the reminder God.
Have you had any reminders from God lately?

Great post. God reminds me each day of all of the things I have to be thankful for. I am so glad you had some orders.
ReplyDeleteI love this post. I recently heard the phrase, "listen to the whisper". I'm trying to keep my sould quiet so that I can hear it.

I agree Beth. We have so much to be thankful for, even during tough times. :)
ReplyDeleteAmber, for me it's busyness that gets in my way of listening. I understand what you mean about keeping your soul quiet.
Thanks ladies. ♥
Thanks so much for the reminder to let go and let God!! I appreciate your faithfulness to reading what God puts on my heart over @ Jeremiah 29:11. He's such an awesome God....and I love that He brings Christian bloggers together!!! HOPE you have a wonderful, blessed weekend!
ReplyDeleteLove this!! Thanks for sharing and for stopping by my blog. It really does tie together doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteI really needed to read your post today. Things are rough for me, as I'm in a sales driven career. This morning I prayed to trust God and all the ways he will make up the difference. I'm so glad I don't have to rely on myself. God Bless and have a good weekend.

Your faith is inspiring! I also tend to worry a lot more than I need to.

It feels so good to let go and let God....! I need that constant reminder! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry things have been difficult lately Lisa. It's amazing how God can speak to us through someone else's experiences. I felt lead to share my experience. Maybe it was to help others, like yourself, who are feeling the same worry right now.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can relax and enjoy the weekend.

Such a great feeling God reminds us the things he do for us if we trust him. I have exams and didn't study much but I am confident I'll remember my work and I trust that God helps me all the time.
ReplyDeleteI'm following your blog back. Thank you for visiting and hope to read more out of your blog :)
Wonderful post, I'm so glad I read it. Thanks for sharing and encouraging others, including me, in our faith.

Worry can be such a powerful enemy! It sucks the joy right out of life. So glad you were able to give your burden to the Lord and find peace. I'm visiting from the Wednesday Window. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteSO glad I've found your site! I love this post. The same thing happened to me. I was down on how A Meal in the Mail was going. I didn't think enough gift cards were being given, enough people helped. I prayed about it, and gave it to God. I got a phone call from a friend telling me that Rebecca's mom (one of the girl's featured) received 5 gift cards in one day! God is good and it's neat to see how He's working in others' lives too, like yours!
ReplyDeleteHi "Big Fat Mama,"
ReplyDeleteIt just feels wrong to call someone that, but since it read that it was an endearing name from your son, I guess it's ok. LOL!
I'd love to write a post about A Meal in the Mail, and share your project with my readers. I'll be in touch. :)
Have a great weekend,
Jan
